By the time an hour and a half passes, the dark is well underway, and an inexplicable heaviness has gathered in the bottom of his stomach because he already knows what Kell is going to tell him. He tells himself that he's being stupid. It's not like they won't ever see each other. Nott is only a portal away, and Wilhelm comes there most days on courier business. But the lump of heaviness sits there nevertheless.
Pushing through the door of the Muted Lute, Wilhelm locates Kell and slips into the seat across from him with a quick smile.
"Hey," he greets.

Kell has been waiting, and fidgeting, there for a while now. He finished earlier than he expected, went to the Muted Lute immediately after and than just sat there, trying to figure out how to tell Wilhelm.

It doesn't feel fair to stall now that he dragged Wilhelm all the way here. It's not easy to start either. When Rhy told him about Vela's offer, when he oh-so-enthusiastically agreed to follow him to Nott, Kell did not expect, not in the slightest, how hard it would be to tell the others.
"I wanted you to be one of the first people to hear this. Rhy got an offer to be liason for the crown in Nott. We're moving there by the end of the month."

He's still shrugging out of his coat when Kell launches in with his news. Except, it's not news to Wilhelm; it's exactly what he expected.
"Rhy told me this morning," he admits.
Then he's probably supposed to give some pleasant platitude about how it must be a great opportunity for Rhy, how it must be a good sign that the crown is willing to give them a little more independence. He could say that he'll miss them, even though they won't have gone far. He could say that he'll visit. Instead, what comes out is:
"What about you? What will you do in Nott, Kell?"
"Rhy told me this morning," he admits.
Then he's probably supposed to give some pleasant platitude about how it must be a great opportunity for Rhy, how it must be a good sign that the crown is willing to give them a little more independence. He could say that he'll miss them, even though they won't have gone far. He could say that he'll visit. Instead, what comes out is:
"What about you? What will you do in Nott, Kell?"

Of course he did. Kell knows he should have expected this. Rhy is leagues ahead of him in all the people things. He still wanted Wille to hear this from him... because he has a few things to add. His choice of meeting place was fully intentional. Choice of meeting place and a small silence spell he learned.
"Look, listen, find options, information. Allies and weapons if I can. I don't want us to ever be so oblivious that we can be so easily ambushed again."
Kell feels he doesn't have to spell it to Wilhelm what ambush he means. The cultists. The Pit. It might be months in the past, but it doesn't mean the memories of the horrors somehow faded. If anything, they metastasized into a power source for a plan anyone else would call crazy. His way of dealing with it all.
"Things were going bad in Nott before any of it reached the capital. I want us to know if they do again. I want us to be forewarned and prepared."
There's going to be a lot less scrutiny on what he does in Nott.

Underneath the table, his fingers curl together in his lap. What Kell says is all very pragmatic, very responsible. He finds himself impressed by all the people around him who can assess problems and pose solutions and build plans. In comparison, he always feels like a dog that's just paddling its legs to keep its head above the water.

He wishes he had something smarter to say, something more profound.

[the package is non-descript, but it's definitely big enough to pique the curiosity of the recipient as to open it as soon as possible. it's definitely been checked through, tied up back into its box after the fact. inside, an amount of homemade goods have been stacked atop each other: candles, soaps, and moisturizing lotions. this would already spell out who it is from, if a similar package has been received, in the past.
